It is hard to find more than “pop” flamenco music at places like Hastings and Borders. There is much, much more to flamenco than the Gipsy Kings and Ottmar Liebert!
I usually order music and videos online. One site I use frequently is Flamencoconnection.com, but there are many others you can try.
Some of the music that I use in class:
“Solo Compas” CD’s that have the basic rhythms we’ll be working with such as Tangos, Farruca, Sevillanas, Bulerias
Camaron de la Isla
Estrella Morente
El Potito
Carmen Linares
-- Look for music made in Spain that is by a certain singer because the song is very important; otherwise you might end up with just guitar music which is nice but doesn’t give you the whole flavor of flamenco.
What to wear to class:
Cool comfortable clothes that are easy tomove in.
For women, a full skirt is reccomended, but not required.
Wear shoes that support and protect your feet for footwork. Something with a 1 to 2 inch heel is preferable.
